How to Become a Real Estate Agent in West Virginia
1) Real Estate Agent Licensing Requirements in West Virginia
You MUST be licensed by the West Virginia Real Estate Commission in order to be a real estate agent in West Virginia.
To obtain your West Virginia real estate agent's license so that you can practice as a real estate agent in West Virginia, you must:
i) Satisfy the minimum requirements requirements to apply for the real estate license:
- be 18 years or older.
- be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- successfully complete 90 hours of pre-licensing real estate course at an approved real estate school
ii) Submit Application to take the Real Estate Salesperson Exam.
ii) Take and pass the West Virginia salesperson exam. There is a $25 exam fee.
iii) Submit License Fee of $50 to the West Virginia Real Estate Commission within 3 months of passing the exam.
2) License Renewal and Continuing Education Requirements
The West Virginia sales associate license must be renewed every year. The license year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30. You will need to complete a continuing education requirement and renew your license in order to continue practicing as a real estate agent in West Virginia.
The continuing education requirement is 7 hours (each hour equals 50 minutes of instruction) of continuing professional education at an approved real estate school.
